Head lice are tiny, wingless insects that live on the human scalp. They are about as big as sesame seeds. Head lice sustain themselves by sucking blood—just as mosquitoes do. However, unlike mosquitoes, lice cannot fly or jump from one person to another; they can only crawl.

Pediculosis pubis (also known as "crabs" and "pubic lice" ) is a disease caused by the pubic louse, Pthirus pubis, a parasitic insect notorious for infesting human pubic hair. The species may also live on other areas with hair, including the eyelashes, causing pediculosis ciliaris.

It is caused by infestation with the human head louse, Pediculus humanus capitis, and it is usually very itchy. Lice are very small insects that feed on human blood.
